SHC Team Spotlight: A Caregiver Turned Close Friend
Gift of Companionship
This holiday season, Wendy and her caregiver, Danielle, are grateful for the gift of each other’s companionship.
Within just a few moments of meeting Danielle, Wendy knew she would be the perfect caregiver.
“She walked through the door with an awesome smile, and I felt like she was the one,” Wendy said. “We just seemed to connect immediately. We are so comfortable with each other.”
Although they’ve only known each other since the spring of this year, they seem like lifelong friends.
“We have so much fun together. Even when we just go to the grocery store, we end up laughing and having a good time,” Danielle said. “This doesn’t feel like a traditional job. It’s like hanging out with a friend.”
Danielle is currently pursuing a graduate degree in mental health counseling from Indiana Wesleyan University. She finds her intimate interaction with Wendy helpful in preparing her for that field.
“We can talk about anything and everything — family, school, careers, whatever’s going on in our lives,” Danielle said.
Wendy appreciates that Danielle not only helps her with daily tasks like laundry and shopping, but she also takes the time to get to know her on a personal level.
“She makes everything better and easier,” Wendy said. “When I’m feeling down, she lifts my spirits, and I hope I do the same for her.”
Wendy is grateful to be paired with such an ideal companion.
