Balancing Practical Hands-on Experience with Formal Education
Transcript:
So how do you balance practical hands-on experience with formal education?
Yeah, good question. I will preface this by saying I also do have caregiving experience myself. I was a CNA in college, so I did that for about five years, and I do have experience with that. During that time, obviously having caregiver training and things like that, going through CNA school and then obviously working in the field.
And I will say, you know, when it comes to that balance of the hands-on experience and the formal education, you can memorize all that education that you want. You can memorize flashcards; you can do all that. But if you don't know how to put a client's TED hose on, for example, the formal education kind of goes out the door. So it is very important to be able to have that hands-on experience and actually practice that skill on that client.
