Caregiver Appreciation Month: How To Celebrate The Caregivers In Your Life
Celebrate The Caregivers In Your Life
November is Caregiver Appreciation Month. We appreciate all of our Senior Home Companion caregivers who selflessly help families assist loved ones day after day.
A week of “Caregiver Appreciation” has gained awareness since the mid-90s, but in 2012, Caregiver Appreciation
Month was declared as, “ … a time to reflect on the compassion and dedication that family caregivers embody every day. As we offer our appreciation and admiration for their difficult work, let us also extend our own offers of support to them and their loved ones.”
The caregivers at Senior Home Companions have a true passion for caregiving and spending time with others, but being “on” so much of the time can also become emotionally draining. Here are just a few ways that you can show appreciation for the caregivers you know:
Favorite treat
Caregivers are always paying attention to those in their care, and anticipating their needs. Show that you care about them too by gifting them their favorite coffee drink, snack, or dessert! Is your family member not sure of their caregiver’s favorite snack? It’s pretty hard to go wrong with chocolate!
Self care kit
Put together a few items that your family member’s caregiver can use for self care. This could include things like soothing bath salts, a fancy candle, or a fuzzy blanket. Or maybe your family member knows other ways that their caregiver likes to relax — like maybe with a good book or some essential oils.
Personalized message
There is nothing quite as heartwarming as a personalized card or letter from someone you care about. Pick up a pretty card or some unique stationary and either help or have your family member write a message to their caregiver about their favorite times spent together.
Know that the caregivers at Senior Home Companions are here for your family members and not for the recognition. But also know that they do appreciate your acknowledgement of the special relationships they share, and the hard work that goes into the career of full-time caregiving.
