Local Resources for Aging Adults and Caregivers

May 24, 2021

At Senior Home Companions, we know that planning ahead as you age is of the utmost importance. So, in addition to the helpful support services offered by our team, we can also connect you and your family members with local and national resources for aging that encourage active lifestyles and compassionate senior care. Access our resource library today to prepare for your future.

National Resources for Aging Adults

There are many national organizations that support aging seniors and caregivers, including those who may be dealing with common physical or mental conditions that are common in elder care. One of the most well-known organizations for seniors that we recommend to clients in search of resources is the AARP, which stands for the American Association of Retired Persons and “empowers people to choose how they live as they age.”

Our aging in place and home care partners include the Assisted Living Federation of America National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers National Association for Home Care & Hospice, Private Care Association and National Care Planning Council. We also recommend seeking out resources from a specific health organization that addresses your medical needs, such as the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, National MS Society, Mental Health America or National Parkinson Foundation.

Central Indiana Senior Organizations

For our clients living in Central Indiana, there are many local resources that can support aging Hoosiers. The Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging provides help for those in need of long-term care, and the Central Indiana Council on Aging Inc. offers services like meals, transportation, home modifications and more.

If you are seeking programming or activities for social interaction, check out The Senior Citizens Organization, Inc. in Hamilton County, Caring Place from Catholic Social Services or Still Waters Adult Day Care with two locations on the Northeast and Eastside of Indy. For those living with dementia or memory loss, there are two Memory Cafe locations at Conner Prairie and the other at Hamilton East Public Library.

Resources for Those Aging in Florida

Floridians looking for local senior care resources have many options as well. The Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida is committed to connecting older adults and adults with disabilities to resources and assistance for living safely with independence and dignity. The local Naples Chapter of National Aging in Place Council supports those who wish to age in place independently.

Volusia County residents have several options for activities and classes at the multiple Council on Aging Senior Activity Centers in the area. And if you have Parkison’s, you can check out the Parkinson Place in Sarasota, a 9,000 sq-ft destination for meeting physical, mental, emotional and social needs, or Rock Steady Sarasota which offers non-contact boxing-based fitness.

If you have questions about aging in place and how Senior Home Companions can help, contact your local office today. We’d love to meet with you for a complimentary consultation to discuss our personalized and consistent senior care.
