Who Is Christie Freeze and How Did She Enter Senior Care?

Christie Freeze has been in the senior care space since 2012, working across independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care.

She didn't set out to build a career here — she fell into it. Before senior living, Christie worked in property management as a leasing consultant.

Christie Freeze:
"I am pretty chatty and I just want to get to know people. When you sell an apartment, someone says 'I want a two-bedroom, I want to move in on this day,' and I'm asking, 'How long have you been married?' It's really not like that in property management as much as it is in senior living."

That curiosity about people's lives pulled her toward senior living, where she spent nearly four years at The Stratford in Carmel building her foundation across every scope of care.

What Special Connection Does Christie Have with Senior Home Companions?

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, Christie shifted from the operator side of senior care and joined the Senior Home Companions team for business development and community relationship building.

That role trickled into something more personal — becoming a caregiver and companion for a client who later became a resident at Story Cottage.

Christie Freeze:
"I always say that she specifically is probably how I got through COVID and the pandemic. We would walk the Monon Trail for miles, plant flowers, and do household chores that brought her so much joy. It grounded me — these are really simple pleasures that can give us purpose."

The idea crystallized in 2019, when Christie achieved a bucket-list goal: opening a brand-new senior living community, Anson Senior Living, from a sales trailer with no building yet to show.

Families kept arriving without knowing what the community offered — or even the basic vocabulary of care.

Christie Freeze:
"I thought, what if people had a basic foundation before they even got to us? Vocabulary, what options exist — anything. When you have a little bit of information or experience from other people, you feel more confident going into something you've never done before."

Sitting with assisted living locator Dave Holder and a plain sketchbook, Christie mapped out the concept. The name CARE even carries the mission: Creating A Roadmap for Eldercare.

What Does Care by Christie Actually Do?

Christie is quick to clear up a common misconception — she is not a nurse or a geriatric care manager. She's a guide.

The Roadmap for Eldercare is a simple, roughly 30-page guide — "a simple guide to equipping you for eldercare ease" — now available on Amazon. It gives families the vocabulary and clarity to take the next step.

Beyond the book, Christie offers strategy sessions — 60 to 90 minutes where she walks a family through the roadmap in person or over Zoom.

Her preference is to have every family member involved, even if they live in different states.

Christie Freeze:
"I've had Zoom meetings with 10 or 12 people. The purpose is so that even if Bob, Sally, George, and Tom all live in different states, everyone hears the same foundational information at the same time. Now you can make an educated decision — and not be like, 'Well, I heard this and I heard that.'"

After the session, Christie records it and makes warm introductions — usually two or three trusted options like Senior Home Companions — so families can interview providers and choose what feels right.
