A history based in Florida
Senior Home Companions was launched almost 30 years ago in Sarasota, Florida in 1992. Founder Judy Cuppy wanted to find a better way for aging adults to maintain their independent lifestyle while remaining comfortable at home. She created a peer program to pair active, healthy seniors with those facing challenges in their health, socialization or mobility.
A few years later, as Judy’s sister, Gloria Scott sought out in-home care for their mother in Indianapolis, she took a cue from Judy and created another Senior Home Companions program in Indianapolis. Both locations were later acquired by current Senior Home Companions President David Morgan after he experienced the quality of companion caregivers with his grandparents first-hand. Today, our primary office operates out of Indiana while working closely with the staff and affiliate caregivers in our Florida offices.
Multiple locations in Florida and Indiana
Our three locations in Florida are located in Ft. Myers, Sarasota and The Villages, with affiliate caregivers serving clients in the surrounding areas. We are proud to work with families in Sarasota, Osprey, Nokomis, Venice, Englewood, and Bradenton, including “snowbirds” visiting from Indiana and the Midwest. We love to offer a seamless caregiver experience for those who travel to Florida for the warmer climate, but may need assistance traveling locally or with daily tasks once they arrive at their destination.
Answering a call to serve
The caregivers who affiliate with Senior Home Companions in Florida are hand-picked for their honesty, competency and dependability. Fewer than 20 percent of our applicants make it through our stringent criteria to join this exclusive group of caregiver affiliates called to serve older adults. Just like the original Senior Home Companions program, many of our caregivers are experienced, mature adults, some of whom are retirees from careers in caretaking fields such as nursing, teaching or homemaking.
Our companion caregivers are willing to go above and beyond in their care for clients and families, offering personalized care and non-medical services to allow for an independent life at home. With visits ranging from a few hours a week to 24/7 care, services may include transportation and coordination for daily care, assisting with light housekeeping and meal preparation, encouraging activities and socialization, personal and bathroom care and transitional recovery care as needed.
