Chocolate Sunday is coming on Nov. 7
Have you or a loved one been impacted by Alzheimer’s or dementia? We are excited to support local families who have been affected by memory loss diseases at the upcoming Chocolate Sunday brunch, an annual fundraising event hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association to further their mission “to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.” Learn more about Chocolate Sunday and how you can help support the goal to put an end to Alzheimer’s.
What is Chocolate Sunday?
Hosted by the Greater Indiana Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, the 30th annual Chocolate Sunday is back in person for 2021 and will be held from 10 a.m. - noon on Sunday, Nov. 7 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral located at 650 N Meridian St. Chocolate Sunday is a champagne brunch and chocolate extravaganza with a silent auction, live auction and special program celebrating the local Alzheimer's and dementia community. There will also be an at-home participation option available for those who do not feel comfortable gathering.
Auction items will include one-of-a-kind experience packages, local “behind the scenes” opportunities, exclusive gift certificates, merchandise from Hoosier businesses and much more. “For anyone that hasn't ever attended, it's so inspiring to hear from local families touched by Alzheimer's,” said Holly Conway-Eaton, Business Development Coordinator at Senior Home Companions. “Plus it's held at the beautiful Scottish Rite Cathedral downtown, with delicious champagne and chocolate as well as lots of exciting items up for auction!”
How is Senior Home Companions participating?
Senior Home Companions has been proud to serve as a multi-year sponsor of Chocolate Sunday. This year, we are serving as Signature-level sponsors along with Story Cottage, our exclusive residences in Indianapolis and Carmel for older adults suffering from memory loss. "With Senior Home Companions opening two Story Cottage locations and eight more in the works, we work in conjunction with the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana quite a bit to support those suffering from Alzheimer's and dementia,” explained Conway-Eaton. “Working to help accelerate global research and maximize quality care and support are very close to our hearts.”
What does the Alzheimer’s Association do?
The Alzheimer’s Association serves as the largest funder for Alzheimer’s and dementia research across the globe. Did you know that there has been a 16% increase in Alzheimer’s and dementia deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic? Fundraising and support for your local Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana chapter and beyond are helping to support dementia patients and their caregivers every day. For each dollar that they receive from donors, 78 cents goes directly to research, care and services for those impacted by the disease. Another 18 cents is invested in further fundraising efforts, and the last 4 cents goes toward operational costs for fundraising teams and research scientists alike.
How can I support the cause?
If you would like to support your local Alzheimer’s Association chapter, you can donate and attend advocacy/fundraising events like the upcoming Chocolate Sunday and other special programs hosted throughout the year. By supporting the Alzheimer’s Association, you become part of a growing number of donors committed to spreading awareness and helping those in Indiana facing Alzheimer’s and dementia, including a number of our Senior Home Companions and Story Cottage clients.
